Cross Green Farm, Dark Lane,
My two cats stay here at least twice a year for two weeks at a time. They are always looked after well and from the cries and screams when I collect them, dont want to come home. They insist you be shown round when you first use them and this shows to me that they are open about their business.
My dog came back from here with burns underneath him from the disinfectant they used to clean the kennels, when I told them they said I should have asked for a mild cleaner to be used I would have thought that was something they would do anyway! They refused to pay any of the vets bill.
We have boarded our cats and dogs here this year, they're not the easiest of animals to care for - our 22year old cat is blind and one of our dogs is a rescue with some hang ups but Cross Green do an excellent job. Of all the local kennels I visited they were the most helpful and welcomed us just dropping in to check them out without prior notice. We shall continue to use them with confidence.
I worked for this kennels a few years back, and they never walked the dogs off the lead like they said in the brochure. They kept them ON lead and walked them around a pond which took no more than 3 minutes, then took them back to the kennel. I saw these people throw in a weeks worth of chews for one dog when they put him in the kennels, when the owner specifically asked to treat his dog each day. Dogs have a plastic bed and a square piece of fleece which is tiny, for comfort and warmth in the cement cells in the barn. I was ordered not to make a fuss of the dogs, i had to clean the kennels as fast as i could with the owner shouting at me to work faster. I was sacked and the owner refused to pay me. I later found out that she had a high turnout of staff whom she would hire for a few days and sack the ones who weren't so fast. I met a girl college who had worked for them for 2 years and she had ended up taking the kennel owner to court because they owed her a lot of money for unpaid wages. When the owner shows up to collect the dog, the dog is rubbed over with a dog wipe to look as though they are glossy and shiny, and they come out overjoyed to see their owners. I saw many customers saying how healthy their dogs looked and they have obviously been looked after, but the dogs were so eager to get out of this place and back home of COURSE they'd be excited to see their owners! They also at the time had around 13 Alsations which were pets which lived in cages at the side of the property. I never saw these walked or cleaned out. Many of their "pets" lived in filthy conditions. Dont be fooled by the "pleasant" attitude of these people. They really dont do as good a job as say they do. Out of sight, out of mind.
Our dog spent two weeks here during september 2010, we found the staff to be polite and helpful and will be boarding him here again.
i would strongly advise against anyone using these kennels, my dog was due to stay here while we went on holiday, approx 24 hours before we were due to leave he became seriously ill, we took him to the vet who admitted him into the hospital straigtaway. i advised crossgreen that he was seriously ill and wouldnt be able to stay there as he was too sick. that was in may 2007, they have since billed me for the whole duration of the stay, when he was too sick to board. i have explained that he was ill and unable to board but they dont care, they just want their money, i understand i would lose my deposit but they want to charge the whole cost. they are not the kind and considerate boarding kennels they make out to be, they couldnt even get my dogs name right after correcting the staff several times. i asked to speak to the manager about the situation but she refused. i have since received a letter of which im being charged £40 for, which is supposedly come from a collection agency, the letter has lots of spelling mistakes and doesnt look professional at all, yet they have the nerve to charge me £40 for writing it. i am disgusted about the way myself and my dogs have been treated and strongly advise anyone to stay awat from these kennels.
